NPCs, Villains, and Companions
New monster types to better support non-player characters, recurring villains, and character companions have been added to Shard. On the Create Monster dialog below, you see two new options. In addition, there two subtypes of unique creature. Each is explained below.
Unique creatures are non-player characters and named monsters that appear multiple times across a campaign. Making a unique creature allows you to track spell slots, hit points, use counts, conditions, and more across encounter boundaries. Unique creatures can use either a monster stat block or a full character sheet.
Companion creatures are templates for character companions. Many of their statistics and abilities are tied to the level, ability bonuses, and proficiency bonuses of the character they accompany. Not all character companions need to be of this type, only the ones that have abilities that vary or level based on the character.
The new types are all available to be added to encounters and used in anyway that the standard monster is used.
