Navigation and Spellcasting
Several new player focused features were released today including updated navigation and major enhancements to spellcasting.
Navigation
A top navigation has been added to the character sheet to allow you to easily jump to any section. You can also still scroll. The navigation is just a shortcut to that particular section of the sheet. This should make it much easier to discover new things, especially as we continue to expand the functionality available on the sheet.
Spellcasting
All spells, regardless of their source, have been consolidated into a new area of the sheet titled Spells and grouped by level.
The spell list shown above includes innate spells from the Tiefling race, Bard spells, Warlock spells, cantrips granted by Pact of the Tome and rituals granted by the Eldrith Invocation Book of Ancient Secrets.
Lots to talk about here:
details for casting time, range, attack modifier or save DC, effect dice, and notes all are now directly on the character sheet.
spell slots are shown next to the header for each level group and pact magic slots are shown at the highest level at which they can be used.
all needed rolls are directly on the sheet including the addition of spellcasting modifier when appropriate.
cantrips automatically show the leveled up effect based on caster level
cast button allows you to up-level or ritual cast as appropriate for the spell and automatically marks off the spell slot
when you up-level cast a spell the effects column is updated appropriately and resets on the next cast
the filter in the upper right allows you narrow your focus
ritual casting is fully supported
innate spells are included and have their usage indicator in the notes column
All these enhancements should make playing a spellcaster a lot more fun.
For Creators: Most of the spell casting features shown above are extracted directly from the text description of the spell using common 5E patterns. If for some reason the features of your spells are not correctly extracted from the text, you can set all the new properties of the spell on the Spell Edit Dialog by clicking the new Manual override checkbox at the bottom of the spell. Spells now have Extra Notes section that works similarly to items. Ritual casting itself is now a modeled feature that can be granted by classes, races, feats, and custom types. Classes have been updated to reflect the various methods of ritual casting (known vs. prepared) and cast as ritual is now an option on the character sheet. When picking spells the list can be restricted to rituals. Innate spells have the option to only allow casting as a ritual.
We have updated the properties for the spells, races, classes, and feats provided in the various packages that we publish.
We hope you like these new capabilities. All feedback welcome. Join us on on Discord, Reddit or Facebook to meet other members of the community and take your game to the next level or follow us on Twitter @shardtabletop for regular updates on what we are doing.
