Elementalist (Wizard)
As Ascari surveyed the destruction of his village, lightning crackled around his clenched fists, and a dark cloud gathered overhead. He would find the people who had done this, and show them the true power of the storm.
Wizards who pursue the path of becoming an Elementalist must specialize in one of the four base elements: Air, Earth, Fire, and Water. These wizards have an easier time learning certain spells of that affinity, can tap into unique elemental abilities, and eventually become masters of their chosen element.
Elementalists gain such a mastery over the elements that they are eventually able to modify the elemental damage type of other spells, turning a scorching fireball into a freezing orb of icy shards, or a lightning bolt into a deadly line of corrosive acid. They also gain access to a unique set of elemental masteries, similar to a Warlock’s eldritch invocation, allowing them to do such great feats as commanding elementals or nullifying an enemies’ resistance to a particular element.
Roleplaying Tips.
Elementalists are wizards who have a particular affinity for elemental magics. While it isn’t a requirement to play them as such, you could consider roleplaying them in a way that reflects the element they focus on. Fire elementalists may be passionate and quick-tempered, while water elementalists may be calm, cool, and collected. And while they may lack the primal connections a druid might have to nature, they may still be more comfortable in their chosen element, feeling at home in the heart of a winter storm, or traversing the peaks of an active volcano. As with other wizards, archivist is always a safe choice for a background, but if you’d like to lean into the elemental side of the class, consider taking the fey-touched background. One more option is the transformed familiar, playing a character that may have maintained an affinity for a particular element after finding itself in a new body.
