Soulspy
Leaving a trail of bodies in her wake, Zenya arrived at the vault. She summoned her divine symbol, willing it to take the familiar shape of her thieves’ tools. When the lock clicked a minute later, she smiled, muttering a quick prayer of thanks to her goddess as she drew her dagger, and crept into the darkness beyond.
Soulspies are agents of the divine, who lurk in the shadows between light and darkness. While many rogues offer loyalty to whomever can offer the most coin, a Soulspy is dedicated to carrying out the divine will of their chosen god, whether they be good, evil, or something in between.
Soulspies have access to a limited amount of divine spellcasting, further enhancing their already deadly skills in combat. Additionally, while clerics and paladins often carry a holy symbol of their deity around their neck, Soulspies are granted the unique ability to summon a symbol of their god from the air itself, which comes with a host of useful tricks. These divine symbols can be transformed into thieves’ tools, shed magical light, or even strike out against enemies.
Roleplaying Tips.
Soulspies are rogues who have found a higher purpose, for one reason or another. Perhaps they had a close call with death, or they could have always been a believer, and only later began down the path of becoming a rogue. As far as alignment, they can be good, evil, or neutral, depending on which god they have chosen to follow. A good-aligned Soulspy may use their powers to take down a corrupt member of the church, while an evil-aligned Soulspy may be sent to assassinate a high-ranking member of an opposing religious sect. When trying to pick a deity, it may help to ask your GM for a list of potential gods to pick from in their campaign. When considering a background, the most likely choice may be an acolyte, but perhaps you were fugitive who sought out aid from a deity in order to escape imprisonment, or a recluse who found god after spending years alone in the wilderness.
The Soulspy is one of the many subclasses available to subscribers in our Core Content Pack, along with others such as the Oath of Radiance or Sword-Dancer. The subclass is also available from Kobold Press as part of the Midgard Heroes Handbook. Build your own Soulspy rogue and tell us about it in the comments below or on any of our social channels.
